I feel LinkedIn has already done this and is a much more attractive platform for reaching out to other programmers and collaborating. I could be wrong, though, as I have only been on LinkedIn for about two years and my usage on the site is still a bit small.

For other sorts of project backing, there's Kickstarter.

I'm not trying to trash your idea or anything, I just feel you are trying to make too general of a site whereas there are clearly established platforms for all the smaller specifics your site tries to handle.

I think you're missing the point. It's not just for "programmers". It's for everyone on the web -- marketers, bloggers, designers, devs, entrepreneurs, businesses etc. Sure Linkedin may be a great platform, but that is more like a rolodex of contacts -- whereas eBackers is a dedicated place to simply post help requests. Kickstarter is a distant competitor and I don't believe the two can be compared really as that is all about funding.

I understand where you're coming from, and I accept your opinion 100%. Just giving you my take on it.

I personally found the background color a little disconcerting. How about a dark grey? or something along those lines. I've always liked darker colors!
