God help me
My girlfriend got an iPhone, due to arrive on Tuesday. It will be our first ever Apple product in our household.
God help me stay strong and not fall for it during my wait for Pre Plus. Amen.

Clearly nothing is wrong with it. Millions can attest to that.
However, I just don't like the overall mass obsession over them and being a Palm Pre fan, I am afraid to get dragged into the iPhone-mania as well while waiting for the GSM unlocked version to become available in Canada... that could still be months away...

Well except for the fact that screens have stopped working, the vibrate switches have broken off, and all the other problems people have had with them. Just check google for that.
P.S. Both of those happened to me, and I took very good care of mine. Good phone, while it lasts. Thats all I'll say.

I wasn't aware of those issues. I never owned a smart phone (never really felt the need until this year).

I think you'd have trouble finding ANY product that doesn't eventually incur a fault...
What screen issue did you have?

Well, there is no doubt about that. But my phone lasted a little over a year, and I've been through about 3. Those are really common problems, and iPhones can't be used if the screen doesn't work. Most phones still function and make calls, at least, when they have something go wrong with them. You'd think they would have done things a little differently, and make the connecters and such a lot stronger and more durable. I loved my iPhone, but I'm just saying.
Oh and, the bottom portion of it is unresponsive. (and before you say restore blah.. I've done everything that you could possibly do! I'm actually about to pop off the screen and see if something went loose that I can fix.)

Yeah but what was the exact screen issue? There's some really really odd unexpected fixes around for such an issue.

Ha, that's funny.
Don't get me wrong, I played with an iPhone before. I found the onscreen keyboard just horrible to type on (I am a traditional kind of person, I like physical keyboard when I know what I press on), multitasking, contacts synergy, Gmail integration, and an accordian-style look and feel to the calendar to die for! I am trying to get a work gadget (manage time, contacts and emails on the go), not an entertainment one, so I really do not care for all the "fart" apps iPhone offers.
EDIT: Oh yeah, I find the WiFi hotspot feature absolutely awesome (extend high speed Internet access for up to 5 mobile devices). Does iPhone have similar functionality?
