  Old  help with javascript project

I'm helping a good friend with a project for his website and before I beat my head against the wall trying to find this I thought I'd ask someone who has more experience with js than I do.

What I'm looking to do is get the current silver spot value from a website and use that value to automatically calculate the silver value of a coin. The coin's composition will be know it is just a matter of getting the current spot value and using it in the calculation. Everything that I have found so far are just widgets that return a picture of a chart. I'm just not sure how to do this or if it's even possible. Maybe a service my friend would have to sign up for in order to get live quotes to embed in the site? Thanks for any help.
