  Old  Domain Registration

I am wanting to register a domain, however, I am not sure if I am allowed. The domain I want to register is already registered as a .com, however, say I want to register the same domain just as a .net - am I allowed to do that?

Or a domain registered as .com, .ca, .co.nz etc. am I allowed to register one say .com.au?

The website is going to be very similar to the .com - just specialized for Australia.

Yes, you can register it as long as it's not a registered trademark.

Is there anyway to find out if a company has a registered trademark?

Also, can I register, develop it, then have it bite me in the bum by having the company register the trademark after I have registered the domain and reclaim my domain?

I was just thinking the same thing.. i think they can come back and "bite you in the butt"
it is best to steer clear of those kinds of domain names, but if you register it as a trademark first, you can always bite them in the butt :]
