There's no "right" way to design. If people think it looks good then it looks good. I personally think yaXay's design is one of the best of the best (contrary to the article). I also like a ton of these new 2.0 trendy sites. I've never been one to call web design art, but when you get to the point where you're treating web design like programming, there is definately something wrong.

I agree sites should be functional, but there's nothing wrong with a little unneeded aesthetics. A lot of people like it.

Simplicity is not always the best received. Here's an idea. Go to your local car dealership and check out the latest models. People aren't driving little gradient boxes with an oversized logo on its ass. People like complex. People like unneccessary. People like cars with spinner rims, spoilers (for those 35 MPH urban roads), annoying mufflers, and random neon lights. I know it's not exactly the same, but just because you think simple is best doesn't mean everyone else does.

Edit: I wrote a huge list of what was wrong with your site (a lot of it even contradicting what you wrote about in your little article) but I figure it would take attention away from the real argument.

Oh man Feros, I HATE the yaxay design. That's why I never was a big poster there.

Everyone has different tastes I s'pose.

*shrug* I really like it except for the forumbit part... I think Corey could have done the forumbit much better. Anyways, did you see the yaXay design before this one? It was god awful!

i am in much agreement with feros and derek in different aspects, feros makes a great point on the car contrast, and derek is right when he says 2.0 started as a new functuality in sites and better coding, people assume theres this simple 4 minute design that applies to them when in all honesty, i can have the most graphic heavy site and still use the same coding as a person with 3 images.
