Honestly, if everyone on talkfreelance gave that article a read and put some of the ideas into practice; the world would be a better place.

There is a massive market for these kind of designs right now and no designer around here (*that i've seen!) has yet to grasp the concept. The first person to do it, and do it well is going to make a killing.

I coughed, giggled, and then rolled my eyes after reading that. This must be the most simplistic and 'eyes wide shut' statement I've heard this week. How nice of you to presume to know all the TF members, and their work.

That article talks a lot and says nothing... make better use of columns, and make your header contrast from your site... sounds like NEWS.

also: any article that says star badges are cool and cutting edge can't be taken seriously.

I'll admit there's a couple good points; make good use of space, bold introduction text, and column layout... but the rest seems too obvious.

Well if his site is designed in 2.0, I'll never design 2.0.

In the sense that it keeps you focused on the content very well, i read the whole thing

i like his sites design, and to be honest blue ire, i agree with jon. sure a lot of the designers here make some nice designs, but none of which follow the web 2.0 great design theme, closest may be rasberry.

however to me, to call a design web 2.0 is so stupid since web2.0 started as a new coding style and better usability of users not as a new whored design style. but thats just me.

Why should everyone conform? Web 2.0 isn't a required design practice, however, I've been trying to "modify" the current 2.0 trend and start a new one... no good luck, however.

@WardLarson - I put a lot of useful intstruction in the article. It may not be news to you, but the reason I write this kind of stuff is to help thousands of people out there who aren't as perceptive as you are when it comes to knowing what works and why. I've never come across an article that says *why* these features work (if they do!), so I wrote one.

If the rest is obvious to you, good for you. You're clearly above the target level.

I don't think I said that star badges are cool or cutting-edge. In fact, I think I said they're in danger of seeming tired to the general web community (which happens much later than it does with web designers).

@AndrewR: I'm not saying that everyone should conform. I go to some length at the beginning of the article to say that you don't *need* all these features, and throwing them all into a design doesn't necessarily make that design good. However, if you understand what they are, why they work, then you can use your own judgement as to whether a feature will work in the context of what you're doing. I have tried to impart information to help people make balanced judgements here.
