Old  "Commercial off the shelf" content or local writer?

When seeking out written content for designs you are working on, do you tend to seek "commercial off the shelf" content, or do you choose a local content writer you can interact with face to face? I suppose it may just depend on the nature of the content you need?

I would go for a mixture of both. If possible, one section of my site would have nationwide content and another would have local content. Or, if I want to reach out to a specific audience, then I would go with which fits the need of the site more.

I would tend to agree with this

Definitely depends on the content. You need not necessarily use local content writers, but those who do the job well would do, I guess.

My previous employers usually look for content writers from other places whom they don't meet face to face (just through web cam or phone conference). They'll just tell them use British or American English, etc. The reason is it's cheaper than hiring a local writer. I'm not sure but this is how they do their business.

Local content writers are better. When you are paying for the contents to unknown person, there is no guarantee that the content is original.Once you got the content, there is a doubt you can find that writer. When you are choosing the local content writer, you can go to him for making the changes of the content. You can have a faith in him.

what exactly is "commercial off the shelf" content, anyways? can you just buy an about page? location is largely irrelevant. familiarity with the subject is what matters - location only plays a role when it's related to the subject, IE australian writer will do a better job writing about australian university culture than a canadian writer.
