I agree that Canon is the way to go.

Keep in mind that using a point and shoot will give you versatility in the areas you speak of (landscape, portrait, macro (closeup)), but won't allow you do really specialize in any of those areas due to the fixed lens.

The Canon S serious is great, I have heard good things about the s1000.

The Sony T series is also said to be quite excellent.

If you want to learn about Canon equipment...the best repository of information I've EVER seen on the subject can be found in this forum: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/

It's a "canon users" online forum. Thousands of members around the world of ALL levels and VERY helpful. Take a look in the camera threads and ask all the questions you want.

I use a Canon 30D DSLR. If you're budget is in the $100-200 range then P&S (point and shoot) is the only thing you'll be able to afford. If you're interested in any kind of pro/semi-pro photography work, you'll want to consider saving up for an SLR kit, IMO.

But it really depends on what you intend to use it for. Good luck!!

If your really into photography save up and get an SLR camera. They get quite expensive but they really are the way to go if your going to be shooting a lot. I don't know what you prefer though. That Canon looks great for just a point and shoot.

For another 200$ go get a Nikon D40! You won't regret it. Starter digital camera for beginners, but it can produce professional shots if you get the right settings.
