  Old  SQL databases

Is it possible to have more than one application (ie 2 different blogs or forums) pointing at one SQL database?

Thanks for your replies in advance

yes, so long as the table names do not conflict.

I believe phpBB, while installing lets you chose a prefix for each table name so you would install one with a prefix of "phpone_" and another with "phptwo_" or whatever you want. If your making them from scratch or your using a different forum script just make sure you don't have conflicting tables like Jon said.

Just remember that if you do decide to use 1 database for multiple forums or other software for that matter, that you greatly increase the risk of security breaches and on a much larger scale. As the saying goes, "don't put all your eggs in one basket".

coming from experience with being a webhost myself be careful how many scripts you have linking to one database as one you may overload your server and if any of the scripts go out of date you expose yourself to alot of trouble with x-scripting and sql injection attacks.

Well also coming from experience managing servers, I'd have to disagree. It doesn't matter how many connections you have to a single database, because the same number of connections would apply if the databases were split up into seperate ones.

On forums designate a table prefix to make things easier.
