I was just going through my proxy directory and it seems like myspace is promoting via adwords.

Good or bad move for Myspace?

How could it possibly be a bad move? They have been using it for ages...all it will do is bring in more visitors.

Was there a need to get the keywords 'proxy directory' linking to your site?

I don't see how it can be a bad move, but it's nothing special, Myspace has always been aggressively advertising their site from the beginning.
