I think you've answered your own question, Mic.

So. My question to you: what have you learned from this experience?

Assuming you paid via paypal, can you not put a claim in?

Future reference, any so called 'freelancer' or anyone at all you do business with, if they approach you with that sort of manner and language, don't hire them.

This is very unprofessional and I would not hire some one like that to work on any projects. The best you can do is put a claim in for a refund and find a place to leave freelancer reviews to suggest others do not hire him.

People like this should not consider themselves freelancing material, and it's people like that who day by day launch us respectful freelancers to the top even quicker.

Mick

If all you "got" out of this experience is some people can't be trusted the same or a similar episode will probably happen to you again.

How about putting some brain-power to the sequence of what happened to figure out what went wrong, and where? Or to deciding what you can do to make sure this doesn't happen? For example, would you . . .

. . .perform better due diligence (as they call it) on a client before you sign on to do the work? Would you have worked for this guy if you had checked out his reputation?

. . .review the auction site's policies before you sign on to use them? It's fairly typical that these places will favor clients offering work over those who bid on the jobs. Furthermore there are probably dispute resolution policies there: by releasing the money you have told them all is okay.

There's more, of course.
