I started out using Dreamweaver. I used to think I was really good because I could use Dreamweaver. Then, for some miraculous reason, my college hired me for web design and I have been learning ever since. I now know HTML, XHTML, CSS, PHP, and MySQL. I want to learn AJAX next.

I first learned some basic HTML about 10-12 years ago. I was about 12 years old and made a website using a website builder tool at geocities, after i finished putting in content, i wanted to change some small things but couldnt do so using the web site builder tool because it really didnt have many options. So i just opened up the pages in notepad and messed with stuff untill i knew some basic stuff. I think i originally wanted to change some colors, so I learned the #RRGGBB first, then i learned <img> tags and then <a> tags, <br>, <hr>, <b>, and a couple other things. I did learn some things from some random tutorials on html, and am now a big fan of w3schools when i need to jog my memory on anything.

I started learning actionscript about 8 months ago, When i started my current job. I learned it all on the fly using the actionscript dictionary as a reference, and still learn new things on a regular basis. I have taken a few programming classes, c++, pascal, javascript, just to name a few. So i had a decent programming background. I would say actionscript was super easy to pick up on.

Well, I wanted to make a website. I started using geocities.

The I moved on to frontpage then dreamwever. Just finding sites that could help me. My ideas were too big for what I knew how to. So with reaserch I found myself learning html/CSS and now a starting php.

Apparently when you eat someones brain, you gain their knowledge...

That's how I started.... Beware developers!

Anyhow, I played with frontpage when I was a wee boy, and noticed it had a HTML tab.... AMAZING what you can learn when you figure... This here EQUALS this here... hmm!

*sigh* No offence, but you can tell that you are a noob because you said you want to learn AJAX. Why won't people understand that AJAX is not a language?

I learned using php.net / google.com

Thats all the resource you will never need to learn.

I have mastered PHP / MySQL / CSS / (x)HTML / JS and I do some server administration.

I wouldn't call myself a designer (yet ) as I am on the steep learning curve having just about got to grips with (X)HTML and CSS mainly through looking at other peoples code and toying around with it. PHP and MySQL are next!

Practice Practice Practice. Learning new things everyday. After aroundabouts 4 years now (wow thats a long time) i'm still surprised at the things that can be created.

I bought a book from Barnes and Noble, did all of the examples, and in no time (well actually about a week) i could write HTML off the top of my head.

I started 7 years ago making personal sites for myself & my friends. I started off in Dreamweaver and also used front page. Eventually I learned how to hand code CSS & HTML just by doing pages and learning what goes where and why.
