Today on the internet, anyone who has a website seems to be making money. Here’s a few tips you should know before you start a website of your own, and how you can get started.

Different Types of Website
There are a few different types of websites on the Internet. Some are very simple to build and manage, others are very complex and expensive. Being able to understand the differences, and knowing what you really want to accomplish in advanced will help you choose which type of website is right for you!

Free Internet Web Hosting
There are several companies out there that provide free web hosting. This means that they will provide a web server and allow you to create your own website. Free web hosts usually provide only small amounts of space and bandwidth, meaning you can only create small, simple websites, and the hosting company will most likely be enforcing pop-up advertisements, or ads on your site so that they can make money.

Virtual Web Servers
A virtual web hosting server company provides web servers and an internet connection that is shared with more than one customer. They provide full functionailty and usually large amounts of space for your website. Virtual web hosting is usually the best choice for most non-commercial web sites, because it has the balance of low-pricing and high reliability. Dizbe was first started on a virtual web host. This is an easy way to start your own website. Often times, they provide free templates, and sometimes even a free domain name with yearly purchases! If you want to get your new website online fast, and don’t want to spend a lot of money, Virtual web hosting is your best choice.

Dedicated Web Servers
A dedicated web host provides highly reliable and high speed web servers with dedicated internet connections. These services are extremely fast and reliable, but also come at a very high price. This would be a good choice for developed businesses that are meeting their monthly limits of a Virtual Host.

Self Web Hosting
Hosting a web server of your own requires high speed internet connections, and expertise in security configuration. This can very quickly become a full time job. Because of the level of expertise required, and because most internet service providers (ISP’s) prohibit the use of web servers on non-business internet connections, trying to host your own web server is not recommended. In fact, it’s highly discouraged.

Website Creation Software
Most websites are created with two simple tools. Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Dreamweaver. With Photoshop, you take the time to design an image of what you want your fineshed product to look like, and with Dreamweaver (Photoshop is used in this process some what too), you Slice that image up, and put it to coding. An alternative to dreamweaver is Microsoft FrontPage, but we don’t like them
If you’re lacking expertise in making designs or coding, you can simply higher freelancers to create your website for you! Then all you need to do, is take what you paid for, and you have a website! This can get fairly expensive though (Designs usually range about $100-$300, and Coding ranges from $25-$3000).

Making Money With Your Website
Now that we’ve built ourselves a beautiful website, we need to make some money! Of course, there are hundreds of alternate routes for this, but I recommend...

Google Adsense
Google’s Adsense program has revolutionized the way webmasters earn money on the Internet, and it is by far, the easiest method. Virtually any website can make money, and there’s almost no limits to how much you can earn! Adsense automatically detects your websites “subject”, and delivers targeted text or image ads to your website, giving your viewers exactly what they’re looking for. For example: I have a website that is a list of Xbox Live Gamer Tags, Google Adsense will display ads about Xbox and Xbox Gamer Tags on that site, with no work on my part!
Best of all, Google Adsense is FREE to use! Signing up for Google Adsense is absolutely free, and takes only a few minutes. After your account is created, you simply copy and paste your ad code into your websites code, and you start making money! It is really, that easy! Of course, how much income you actually make depends on many factors, those being: The amount of traffic your website receives, and how many of those visitors click on your ad words. If your website gets #1 or #2 on a relative search through Yahoo! or Google, it can easily earn your thousands of dollars a month!

Make your website easy to find!
As said above, the key to making money with your website is traffic. The more people that come to your website, the more money you’re capable of making. They key to getting these visitors, is to get your website Optimized for Search Engines. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a very important factor in any website. And that means more than just searching “Dizbe” and having “” come up. I would want people to search for “Blog” and hopefully Dizbe would come up close (even though that’s very unlikely at this point in time lol)

A Few Simple Tips for SEO
  • Submit your website to multiple directories, such as DMOZ.ORG
  • Submit your website to all major search engines: Google, Yahoo!, Live, and Ask. All these major search engines will allow you to submit your site by hand, so they can start indexing your pages.
  • Solicit links from other websites to your website. When another website links to your website, it pretty much votes for your website. Search engines take into account how many of these votes you get, and raise your rankings.
  • Never stop learning! You’ll never have learned enough about SEO, there’s always more. As long as search engines exist, you can still do better. So keep reading books, websites, and forums dedicated to making your website search engine friendly. I recommend our site
Advertise Your Website
Advertisement will cost you money. So for begginers, I recommend just posting around in free directories, and adding links to your forum signatures. But once you get some change, purchase some relevant adspace on either search engines, or websites with similar content. This will drive more traffic to your site, and increase user awareness of it.

While you wait, keep creating new content, and a lot of it.
After you’ve created your website, and initiated some SEO, the next step is to wait. It can take anywhere from days, to weeks, to months for search engines to begin indexing your website, and for users to start visiting in large numbers. Use this time to create and add unique content, interesting pages, and information about your website to keep it growing. No one wants to visit a website that hasn’t been updated for 2 months.

This will take time…
As I said above, it will take time before you start seeing significant traffic to your website, and start making large amounts of money. Use this time to learn about how to make your website better, and then make it better! Making money with a website is NOT a get-rich-quick scheme. It takes hard work, dedication, and patience. But if you stand firm, and really put in the effort, the payoff can be well worth it.
