WYSIWYG editors are toys, not tools. Don't expect good results from them because you'll never get them.

Without seeing your website, none of us can say with certainty as to what is wrong with it.

Keep in mind though, programs and web browsers use a variety of rendering engines for parsing the HTML and CSS. Just because your code meets W3C standards, doesn't mean that every rendering engine will live up to the standards. In fact, none of them do.

And as Village said above, WYSIWYG editors are essentially toys - they are more of a marketing feature for novices than anything else. Anyone serious in web development will steer clear of those editors as they're impractical in their existing state of rendering. Especially since no one is going to be browsing the web through an editor as such.

Also, if you're not seeing any styling at all - perhaps you've incorrectly linked the stylesheet. Be sure to check the paths to all files and images.

Any test-based editor should do, I use notepad++ because it has a number of useful features.

Don't get me wrong or misinterpret, I use Dreamweaver for most of my work. However, I avoid using or even acknowledging its WYSIWYG feature set. I use it primarily because of it's built in FTP support, and it's decent (though a bit dated) code editing features.

You can use what ever editor you wish to use. The main thing that I'm trying to get across is that you can-not and should-not rely on the WYSIWYG feature set of any of the available applications used. Instead, look for a program that makes it easier to read and write code manually.

Glad to hear that. You'll be a lot better off without them and you'll learn a lot faster too!
