  Old  CSS Books

Well, I got tired of looking at a screen when learning HTML, and a bit of CSS. So I went and checked out the library, and was able to get Stylin w/ CSS and Eric Meyer on CSS.

Have you guys heard anything on these books? They will probably be sent to me by Friday.

I used Eric Meyer on CSS for my Intermediate Web Design class at Ai. It was pretty good, just make sure you actually pay attention to the code you are writing and not just copying it blindly to make it work.

When I was learning CSS http://www.htmldog.com/ was probably the best reference for me.

I'm not so keen on the Eric Meyer book (I think better books have been published since). I really like Dan Cederholm's "Web Standards Solutions", and as a follow-up Budd, Moll, & Collison's "CSS Mastery"; if you can get hold of them, then do.

You can buy "CSS for Dummies". I started with that one. Learned a bit and then started practicing. Try and error.

Cheers

I second CSS Mastery. It's a great read, and the first bit is a rather excellent review of some important CSS basics, although much of it is literally about mastering CSS. If you want a reference type book I always like O Reilly's Cascading Style Sheets - The Definitive Guide. It'll give you more then you ever thought you could learn, although it's dry reading.

I'm guessing that your library probably won't have these books but if you are willing to spend some money then they would be perfect.

1. The CSS Anthology (Sitepoint)
2. HTML Utopia: Designing without tables using css (Sitepoint)
3. The art and science of css (Sitepoint)

As you can tell I am a very big Rachel Andrews fan and love her writing, they really are amazing books, especially the css anthology of which a second edition came out only a few months ago.

That is more based on the idea of design of the website, not realy the CSS part of it. Even though Jason touches on a bit of CSS in the later chapters.
Here is a good list that I own and I higly recomend. SOme of the books repeat themselfs but the authors have diffrent ways of teaching so worth getting.

Also before I write the list the best way when you have the fundementals down is to go and look at code and learn that way and then code yourself. It dont matter if the coding/design is bad noone apart from you is going to see the outcome.

For The begginer.
Beggining CSS: Simon Collision,
Build Your Own Web Site The Right Way Using HTML & CSS: Ian Lloyd (For Sitepoint).
The Zen of CSS design: Dave Shea and Molly Holzschlag.

For the Intermediate.
Bulletproof Web Design: Dan Cederholm,
The Art And Sciance Of CSS: Jina Boulton, Jonatan Snook, David Johnson, Cameron Adams, Steve Smith (sitepoint),

Advanced.
CSS Mastery: Andy Budd, Simon Collision and Cameron Moll,
Transending CSS: Andy Clarke,
Pro CSS Techniques: Dan Rubin, Ian Lloyd and Jeff Croft.
Web standerds Creativity: Too many to mention.

I hope that this helps you.
