  Old  IPB Converting?

Hey I was wondering what is the difference between IPB 2.x skins and IPB 1.3? The question is my friend is going to start a forum and he only has an IPB 1.3.1 final yet he found a skin for IPB 2.x. How might he be able to make that skin compatible with IPB 1.3?

Regards
Illusion

Try to install it and see what error you get.

I would assume you get errors in ya style sheet and some php code modification would remedy that. I can look into it further. Skin tends to be compatible with older versions.

Hi illusion. There is a big difference between 1.3 and 2.x skins. It would need to be recoded in order for it to work. First step is to get authors permission to convert the skin.

Depends which version the skin is... If it is the new version 2.1, there will be tons of differences, for a start there will be all the new WYSIWYG system and alll the new things for admins and even if you got it for 2.0, they changed the names for stuff and that. See if you can find the skin in 1.3...

so basically if he bought a 2.1 or 2.0 skin he would only be paying for the images because of the skin difference?

Basically:

ipb 1.3 skins wont work on ipb 2.0 or 2.1
ipb 2.0 skins wont work on ipb 1.3 or 2.1
ipb 2.1 skins wont work on ipb 2.0 or 1.3

The images are different on each, the names of the images are different on each, css is different on each.

Sucks really, dont know why ipb cant stick with a good skin system and develop features around working with skins from older versions.
