Old  Rank system for quality and bad posts/replies?

Im not sure if this is possible but I think (hint:think) i saw it somewhere once, which i think is way better than the 20 char limit ( no disrespect here and the 20 char doesnt bother me).

How it goes:
1-Each member will have the ability to vote if the post is good/bad/average etc..
2- there is no number two fools.
3- Each member will then evaluate his post and be able why it was ranked like that, that way he will teach himself/herself over time how to reply better than the previous time.

its like the rank system on youtube where each video can be ranked or most article website, im pretty sure there has to be something like that for vb, i never operated a vb before but i saw it somewhere.

Why do I think this plan is better?

20 char limit isnt that much effective if you ask me, a post consisted of only 20 can be worthless or even a post of 20 paragraphs but with the rank system, it will show the original poster and the posters of the replies what others think about their posts and therefore they will improve it later.

That system will either be ignored like that topic rating system is or there will be people that can get away with nearly anything because of their standing in the forum.

I can't say much for the 20 character limit either though. If someone wants to type something that doesn't break the limit they will just type [20 character rule]. Which doesn't really help the post quality.

no offense, but this idea is plain stupid.

no one would waste their time doing this just to see 1 non-quality post be deleted or whatever. people dont even use the report buttons, or thread rates.

You might not, but trust me, people do.

Wherever there is a reputation/ranking system on the forums, I can usually see 2 situations:
1. It's light and positive only (one cannot give a negative rating), so everyone gets more and more rep points. Everybody is happy, but this changes nothing.
2. With negative rankings added there are (of course not always) never ending threads/posts "why I have received bad rep for this/that?". People are complaining about the system abuse, unjust ratings given, etc. Even if a post/thread would be rated very low because it deserved it, there might be tensions between members, growing "aggression" and so on.

I think that at this point it would be safer for TalkFreelance to keep the "verbal" system of rating - ie. "thanks, good post/nice article" rather than introduce the real post/thread ranks.
